From time trials to jumps and skids, off-road and on-road…the FIA World Rallycross Championship (WRX) is one of the world’s most spectacular motorsport disciplines. Led by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) since 2014, this competition is attracting growing audiences each year. As a team partner for Hansen, TotalEnergies is passionate about and committed to this championship. 

A unique and thrilling competition

The WRX is not like any other motorsport championship. Firstly, because its 10 events set to take place in 2021 will be held on closed circuits around 1km long, scattered with jumps, on mixed tracks: around 60% off-road and 40% on-road. But the WRX has two key features that make it even more fascinating and unique. The first is the “Joker Lap”, an extra portion that extends the track and must be taken once by each driver during each race - the challenge is choosing the best time to do it! The second is the “spotter”, who is like a co-pilot except they are not in the car, but trackside. Spotters can see the entire racecourse and must assist drivers with their strategic choices. 

The 2020 and 2021 Rallycross seasons were hugely disrupted by the pandemic. Initially postponed, races then took place without spectators. Nevertheless, the competition and fans’ involvement remained strong thanks to growing digital engagement. Broadcasting the races online and communicating on social media kept fans at the heart of the competition.

    MotoGP is the world motorcycle racing championship’s top category. Each year, it is watched live by a TV audience of more than 400 million viewers.     Launched in 2010, the Moto2 World Championship is based on bikes with a free chassis and a common engine (765cc) for all the teams: the riders’ talent is the main feature to stand out. As the bikes are less powerful than for MotoGP, this category is aimed more at upcoming young talents looking to gain experience on the international stage. TotalEnergies has been its official fuel supplier since 2016, and has built up close partnerships with the Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marcs VDS and KTM Red Bull Tech 3 teams for the 2019 season.

    The World Superbike Championship (WSBK) was created at the end of the 80s so that bikes based on standard road-use models could compete. A unique opportunity for manufacturers to promote their standard models, and for energy firms like TotalEnergies to develop innovative products for the general public. In 2019, we are continuing to support Kawasaki’s official teams, targeting a new WSBK World Champion title.

    The famous endurance motorcycle races like the 24 Heures Motos and the Bol d’Or are part of the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) Endurance World Championship.
